The National Science Foundation (NSF) is a US federal government organisation which provides funding to aid and support scientific projects across a wide range of disciplines.

The NSF Office of Polar Programs provides funding to grantees conducting scientific research in Antarctica that contributes to the overall goals of the United States Antarctic Program.

Raytheon Polar Services is the current ten year contractor to NSF to provide operational and logistics support to the Antarctic mission.

3   Link   Mosaic of Antarctica (MOA) Image Map
Staff from the National Snow and Ice Data Center (NSIDC) and the University of New Hampshire have assembled a digital image map and a snow-grain-size image of the Antarctic continent and surrounding islands. The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) Mosaic of Antarctica (MOA) image map is a composite of 260 swaths comprised of both Terra and Aqua MODIS images acquired between 20 November 2003 and 29 February 2004.

MOA provides a cloud-free view of the ice sheet, ice shelves, and land surfaces at a grid scale of 125 m and an estimated resolution of 150 m

4   Link   Nasa Ozone Hole Watch
The Ozone Hole Watch web site, where you can check on the latest status of the ozone layer over the South Pole. Satellite instruments monitor the ozone layer, and we use their data to create the images that depict the amount of ozone. The blue and purple colours are where there is the least ozone, and the greens, yellows, and reds are where there is more ozone.

5   Link   Palmer Station - Long-Term Ecological Rsearch (LTER)
The Palmer Long-Term Ecological Research (LTER) study area is located to the west of the Antarctic Peninsula extending South and North of the Palmer Basin from onshore to several hundred kilometers off shore. Palmer Station is one of the three United States research stations located in Antarctica. It is on Anvers Island midway down the Antarctic Peninsula at latitude 64.7 South, longitude 64.0 West. A view from the station can be seen on the Palmer Station webcam.

7   Link   Palmer Station - LTER Cruise
Palmer LTER Cruise is an outreach effort of the Palmer LTER Education & Outreach Program coordinated by Beth Simmons (besimmons@ucsd.edu). This cruise is one of the annual interdisciplinary cruises contributing to the creation of a long-term time series record which began in 1991.
